How to forward calls on a Frontier business phone line
Forward a Frontier business line: *72 for every call, *92 and *90 for unanswered and busy calls, or Call Manager on SmartVoice. Includes the Florida exception.

Short answer
On a traditional Frontier business line, dial *72, wait for the second dial tone, then dial the number to forward every call; *73 turns it off. *92 forwards calls nobody answers and *90 forwards calls while you're busy (*93 and *91 turn them off), but Frontier's guide says those two aren't available in Florida. On Frontier SmartVoice, set forwarding at um.frontier.com under Call Manager, or in the Frontier Communicator app.
First: which kind of Frontier line do you have?
Frontier is now part of Verizon (the purchase closed January 20, 2026), but Frontier still runs its own phone support: Frontier's help pages still publish Frontier's codes, and Verizon tells Frontier landline customers to contact Frontier. The steps below are Frontier's.
- Traditional business line: forwarding uses codes you dial on the line itself. Frontier no longer sells these lines to new small businesses, but existing ones still work this way.
- Frontier SmartVoice or Business Voice: internet-based phone service that runs on Frontier business fiber. You set forwarding in a web portal or the Frontier Communicator app. If you sign in at um.frontier.com, this is you.
Traditional line: the codes at a glance
| To do this | Dial or tap |
|---|---|
| Forward every call | *72 + number |
| Stop forwarding every call | *73 |
| Forward calls nobody answers | *92 + rings + number |
| Stop forwarding unanswered calls | *93 |
| Forward calls while you're busy | *90 + number + # |
| Stop forwarding busy calls | *91 |
Some areas use different codes. In parts of Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Alabama and Wisconsin, dial 72# and 73# with no star; in Rhinelander, *72# and *73#. Rochester and Seneca Gorham use their own busy and no-answer codes, so check with Frontier there.
Traditional line: forward every call
- From a phone on the business line, wait for the dial tone and dial
*72. - At the second dial tone, dial the number you want calls to go to. For a long-distance number, dial
1and the area code first. - Forwarding turns on when that number answers, and you'll hear a confirmation tone.
- If it's busy or nobody answers, hang up and repeat the steps within two minutes.
To turn it off, dial *73 from the same line. Forwarding is switched from the business line itself; doing it from another phone needs Frontier's separate Call Forward Plus add-on and a PIN. While forwarding is on, your phone gives one short ring for each forwarded call, and you can't answer incoming calls, though you can still make calls out.
Frontier says business lines are charged a message rate for each forwarded call, plus long-distance rates if you forward to a long-distance number.
*72 and the number in one go, without waiting for a second dial tone.Traditional line: forward only unanswered or busy calls
Calls nobody answers:
- Dial
*92(on a rotary phone,1192). - At the special dial tone, enter how many rings to allow before the call forwards, then dial the number.
- When that number answers, it's on, and you'll hear a confirmation tone. If it doesn't answer, try again within two minutes.
- To turn it off, dial
*93and listen for the confirmation tone.
Calls that come in while you're on the phone:
- Dial
*90. At the special dial tone, dial the number followed by#, then hang up. - To turn it off, dial
*91and listen for the confirmation tone.
*90 or *92.If you have call waiting, busy forwarding only kicks in when you're already on the line with two callers, or when you've turned call waiting off for the moment. Forwarding every call overrides both of these, so turn it off with *73 first. Frontier doesn't publish which ring counts are allowed.
Frontier SmartVoice and Business Voice: set it up online
- Go to um.frontier.com and sign in with your full phone number (area code included, no dashes) and your password, which Frontier says is the same as your voicemail PIN.
- Open Call Manager.
- To forward every call, set incoming calls to Forward to another phone and choose a saved number or enter a new one.
- For calls nobody answers, under If there is No Answer choose Forward to another phone after, and set how many seconds to wait.
- For busy calls, under If your phone is Busy choose Forward to another phone.
- Click Apply.
To stop forwarding, switch each setting back to its other choice: incoming calls to Ring your phone, and no-answer and busy calls to Send to voicemail. Your home screen shows the current setting next to Incoming calls will:.
In the Frontier Communicator mobile app, open Profile & Settings, tap Call Manager, choose Forward all calls and enter the number. The change applies on all your Communicator devices. Choose Available to stop.
*72-style codes, so use the portal or the app instead of dialing codes.Test it
Frontier doesn't publish an official test, so here's the simplest check. Use a cell phone that isn't on your Frontier account.
- Every call: call your business number. It should ring straight through to the other number.
- Unanswered calls: call and let it ring. After the rings or seconds you set, the call should move to the other number.
- Busy: call while the line is already in use. The second call should go to the other number.
If it doesn't work
- Your phones stopped ringing: forwarding every call is probably still on. Dial
*73; Frontier's own troubleshooting says the same. *72didn't take: the other number has to answer the setup call, or you have to repeat the steps within two minutes.*90or*92did nothing: your line may not have those features, you may be in Florida, or your area may use different codes. Call Frontier.- Forward to another phone is missing from the SmartVoice home screen: set it up in Call Manager first.
Using this with Nacho
Nacho gives your restaurant a local number that answers calls, takes orders, and answers questions. The Phone page in your Nacho dashboard shows that number and asks how calls should reach Nacho: Every call, Only missed calls, or Only when the line is busy. On a traditional Frontier line those match *72, *92 and *90 (outside Florida). On SmartVoice, use the same three settings in Call Manager.
When you turn on forwarding every call, Nacho answers Frontier's setup call, so forwarding switches on. Then use Test your setup on the Phone page: call your restaurant from your cell phone and you should hear Nacho answer. Check that the call on your Nacho Calls page shows your cell number; Frontier's help pages don't say which number a forwarded call shows.
Want calls answered while you're busy?
Nacho answers your restaurant's calls, takes orders with prices from your own menu, and speaks English, Spanish and French. Enter your number and Nacho will call you, so you can order something and hear for yourself.
