About $3,494

a month in orders from calls nobody picked up

That's about $41,933 a year, from about 125 missed order calls a month.

How the number is worked out

Calls a day × days open a week × 52 weeks ÷ 12 months gives your calls in an average month. Multiply by the share you miss and the share that are orders to get the missed order calls. Multiply that by your average order.

Some of those callers will try again later, and some will order somewhere else. The calculator can't tell which, so it shows the full amount from calls nobody answered.

Finding your own numbers

Calls on a typical day
Your phone company's online account or your phone's call history usually shows how many calls came in. Pick an ordinary day, not your slowest or busiest.
Share of calls you miss
Compare the missed calls in your call history with the total. Or have someone tally the calls nobody answered during one busy dinner.
Share of calls that are orders
Think about the last 10 calls your staff answered. If 6 were people ordering, that's 60%.
Average order
Your POS sales report usually shows an average ticket or average sale. Use the one for pickup or phone orders if it has it.

Questions owners ask about missed calls

How much money do restaurants lose from missed calls?

It depends on how many calls you get, how many you miss, and your average order, which is why this calculator uses your numbers instead of an industry average. With the example numbers (40 calls a day, 20% missed, 60% orders, a $28 average order, open 6 days a week), that's about $3,494 a month.

How do I find out how many calls my restaurant misses?

Check your phone's call history or your phone company's online account for missed calls on an ordinary day. If you can't see it there, have someone tally the calls nobody answered during one busy dinner.

How can a restaurant stop missing phone calls?

The usual options are more staff on the phone at busy times, sending overflow calls to an answering service, or forwarding them to an AI host like Nacho, which answers questions and takes orders when your staff can't. You can forward every call, or only the ones nobody picks up.
